I live in a manufactured home with a Miller/Nordyne furnace/ac.
It has a hogs hair filter. I was wondering if you know if I have to replace it with the same type? or can I use an electrostatic air filter instead.It is 6 years old and falling apart.

For Better Filter Performance Upgrade Your Air Filter
One of the biggest misconceptions about air conditioning and heating equipment is that you have to continue using the same type of filter that originally came with the equipment but it is not true.
You can use any type of filter you want. In fact, filters that come pre-installed in the equipment when it is new, are usually of poor quality and have low efficiency ratings. I always recommend upgrading to a more 
efficient filter.

P.S. I think the reason manufacturers ship new equipment with poor quality filters is competition. In an effort to remain competitive they have to cut costs where they can and this is one of those areas.

I own a Magic Chef Furnace about 28 years. Mfg. recomends disposable filters. I replaced with Filtrete filters and now the air flow seems to be down and the heater closet & walls seems to be much warmer.

You don’t mention what kind of filter you upgraded from but I will assume it was a hogs hair filter. Upgrading from a hogs hair filter to a filtrete filter will definitely have an impact on air flow because it is much more efficient. The walls of your furnace being warmer is definately an indication of that.
An undersized duct system can also contribute to this problem. I would recommend using a filtrete filter with a lower efficiency rating to help solve this problem or even one of the less efficient disposables.
